How to Improve Productivity in the Workplace

There are several ways to help improve your employees’ production. These include the following:

  • Giving your employees the right tools. There are three categories of tools that employees usually need. These include communication, time tracking, collaboration and productivity tools. These can help workers handle tasks more efficiently and also allow them to understand the end result better.
  • Getting rid of “motivational killers.” Productivity and motivation are closely related. So, to increase productivity, you need to eliminate “motivation killers” like negative coworkers, overwork, lack of support, boredom, and feelings of unappreciation.
    Not micromanaging. If you hover too much over your employees, they will likely become stressed and, in turn, be less productive. One way to solve this issue is to hire people whose skills and judgment you trust and to schedule regular check-ins with workers.
  • Getting more out of meetings. Meetings can often be a waste of time. With that in mind, cutting down on meetings can keep employees more productive. If a meeting is necessary, ensure a set beginning and end time and list all the points you will discuss. Sticking to an agenda can help you stay on track and let employees know when they can get back to their tasks.
  • Mitigating distractions. If certain distractions are getting in the way of your employee’s productivity, you’ll have to eliminate them. One of the biggest distractions in the workplace is cell phones. In this case, you could require employees to keep their phones silent while in the office.
  • Encouraging wellness. Most people are happier and more productive when caring for their physical and mental health. So, advocating wellness initiatives in the workplace can pay off. There are many ways to do so, such as ensuring your employees have adequate health insurance coverage, providing an employee assistance program, offering discounts on gym memberships, and ensuring everyone has sufficient time off to recharge.
